Buck Wild Forage Blend – Planting Recommendations

  • Test Soil pH. A pH level of 6.0 – 7.0 is ideal and allows plants to maximize nutrient absorption.  If you do not have a soil test done, we suggest adding 150 – 300 lbs of lime to your ¼ plot.  At the same time, you will most likely need 50-100 lbs of 13-13-13 fertilizer as well.
  • Two – three weeks before planting, it is suggested that all native grasses/weeds be sprayed with weed killer. At planting time, cultivate soil bed 1”-2” which will also help eliminate competing vegetation.
  • Soil temperature must be above 62 degrees for peak germination. At the same time, soil moisture is critical.  It is best to plant after a rain where adequate water has fallen and the soil is moist.  It is critical that sufficient rain fall take place during germination to ensure the success of your plot(s).
  • You can either drill or broadcast Buck Wild Forage Blend onto your food plot bed. The desired depth is ¾” – 1”.
  • Buck Wild Forage Blend is an annual product and should be planted each spring/summer to support your wildlife and maximize your opportunity for success.
